Ridge caps sit on a mortar bed and are sealed with pointing along each side. Rigid cement mortar and a roof that expands and contracts every day are a poor combination, and in Sydney's temperature swings the bedding eventually cracks apart. Once it has, the caps are held on mostly by their own weight, and water runs straight into the roof beneath them.

Rebedding means lifting the caps, removing the failed mortar and laying a fresh bed. Repointing then seals the joint with a flexible compound designed to move with the roof rather than crack away from it. Done together, it is the difference between a roof that lasts another fifteen years and one that keeps leaking.

Pointing alone over a failed bed is a cosmetic fix that looks fine and solves nothing. We will tell you which one your roof actually needs.

All work is carried out under NSW Building Licence 471250C, covered by $20M public liability and backed by our 10-year workmanship guarantee.

## Why Crown Roofers for this service
- **Flexible pointing** — Moves with the roof instead of cracking off it, which is why the repair lasts.
- **Bedded properly** — Caps lifted and re-bedded rather than pointed over failed mortar.
- **Visible from the ground** — Fresh, straight ridge lines make an old roof look cared for.

## Signs you need this service
- Cracked or crumbling mortar visible along ridges and hips
- Loose or rocking ridge caps
- Mortar fragments in gutters or on the ground after wind
- Leaks appearing near the ridge line

## FAQs
### How long does rebedding last?

Properly bedded and pointed with a flexible compound, you should expect well over a decade. Rigid cement pointing over a cracked bed can fail within a couple of years.

### Can you just repoint?

Sometimes — if the bedding underneath is genuinely sound. If it is not, pointing over it hides the problem rather than fixing it, and we will say so.

### Is this the same as a roof restoration?

It is part of one. A full restoration adds cleaning, tile repairs and a protective coating.
