WHAT TO LOOK FOR DURING A GUTTER INSPECTION
When cleaning gutters, also inspect: the condition of the gutter itself (rust, holes, separation at joints), the fall toward downpipes (gutters should slope at around 1:500), the condition of the fascia board behind the gutter (soft or discoloured wood indicates water damage), and downpipe outlets at ground level (blocked underground drains cause overflow at the base of the wall).
GUTTER GUARD: IS IT WORTH IT IN SYDNEY?
Gutter guard reduces — but does not eliminate — the need for gutter cleaning. Fine mesh guards (like Leafguard or Gutter Mesh Pro) are effective against leaves but can trap seeds and fine debris that eventually block the mesh itself. WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR GUTTERS

DIY VS PROFESSIONAL GUTTER CLEANING
Single-storey homes with accessible eaves are suitable for DIY cleaning by a capable homeowner with the right ladder setup. Two-storey homes, steeply pitched roofs, or homes with complex geometry should be cleaned by a professional. The risk of a serious fall from a two-storey gutter cleaning job is not worth the saving.
