Concrete tiles are mass-produced from sand, cement and pigment. They typically last 30–50 years and require their factory finish refreshed every 12–20 years. Concrete is significantly cheaper than terracotta, comes in a wide range of profiles and colours, and is the most common tile type on Sydney homes built between 1960 and 2000.

The mortar bedding typically fails at 15–25 years; the pointing usually needs replacement every 8–12 years. Failed pointing is one of the most common causes of tile roof leaks in Sydney.
