Colorbond Profiles Explained: Trimdek vs Klip-Lok vs Corrugated

Trimdek, Klip-Lok and corrugated are the three Colorbond profiles you'll choose between in Sydney. Here's how they differ in look, pitch, fixing and cost — and which suits your roof.

If you're re-roofing in Colorbond, the first real decision isn't the colour — it's the profile. The profile is the shape of the steel sheet, and it changes how your roof looks, how low a pitch it can handle, how it's fixed down, and what it costs. In Sydney, three profiles cover the vast majority of homes: Trimdek, Klip-Lok and classic corrugated.

Trimdek — the modern all-rounder

Trimdek has bold, square trapezoidal ribs and a flat pan between them, giving a crisp, contemporary look. It's pierce-fixed (screwed down through the ribs with sealing washers), which keeps it economical, and it can be laid to a low minimum pitch. That combination makes it the default choice for a huge number of Sydney homes, skillion roofs, patios and carports.

Choose Trimdek if you want a sharp, modern profile at the best value, and you're comfortable with neatly placed visible screws.

Klip-Lok — concealed-fix and sleek

Klip-Lok is a concealed-fix profile: the sheets clip onto hidden clips fixed to the battens, so there are no screws penetrating the surface. The result is a sleek, unbroken finish and one of the lowest minimum pitches available — ideal for near-flat skillion roofs on modern homes. It typically costs a little more than Trimdek and needs more care with foot traffic.

Choose Klip-Lok if you want a screw-free look or you have a very low-pitch roof.

Corrugated — the timeless classic

Corrugated (Colorbond Custom Orb) is the rounded, wavy profile most people picture on an Australian roof. It's flexible enough to be curved or bullnosed for verandahs, which makes it the go-to for Federation and heritage homes — though it looks just as good on modern builds wanting a softer line. It's pierce-fixed and economical.

Choose corrugated for heritage character, curved verandahs, or a classic look at a sensible price.

Which profile is right for your roof?

It comes down to your roof's pitch, the look you want and your budget. Low-pitch and screw-free points to Klip-Lok; best-value modern points to Trimdek; heritage and curves point to corrugated. The genuine Colorbond steel and colour range are the same across all three — so you're really choosing shape and fixing method.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest Colorbond profile?
Pierce-fixed profiles like Trimdek and corrugated are generally more economical than concealed-fix Klip-Lok, because Klip-Lok's hidden-clip system costs more to supply and install. Exact pricing depends on your roof size, pitch and access.
Which Colorbond profile is best for a low-pitch roof?
Klip-Lok handles the lowest minimum pitch thanks to its concealed-fix design, which is why it's popular on near-flat skillion roofs. Trimdek also suits low pitches and costs less. We confirm the right profile and pitch for your roof during the free inspection.
Is corrugated Colorbond only for old houses?
No. Corrugated suits heritage and Federation homes because it can be curved for verandahs, but it's also a popular choice on modern homes wanting a softer, classic line. It's the same genuine Colorbond steel as the other profiles.
