Tile Roof Restoration & New Guttering — Kingsgrove
Kingsgrove, Sydney NSW
About This Project
Full tile roof restoration — ridge capping stripped and rebedded, repointed with flexible pointing, and the roof recoated in charcoal — together with new fascia and guttering in matching Colorbond.
The Challenge
The tiles themselves were sound; what had gone was everything holding them together. Rigid mortar bedding under the ridge caps had done what rigid mortar always does in Sydney — cracked apart under years of thermal movement — and once the pointing lets go, the ridge is only sitting there by weight. The guttering had reached the end of its life at the same time, so replacing it without addressing the roof above would have meant new gutters collecting debris from a roof still shedding it.
The Outcome
Ridge caps were lifted and rebedded properly, then repointed with a flexible compound that moves with the roof instead of cracking away from it. The tiles were recoated in charcoal, which is where the uniform finish in the photos comes from — it is the original roof restored, not a replacement. New fascia and guttering went on in matching Colorbond, so the roof and the gutter line were brought back to the same standard at the same time rather than one outliving the other.
